Review – Chali 2na at the Biltmore Cabaret, Vancouver, Sept 23 2010

Vancouverites were treated to a huge night of hip hop, as The Lytics and Chali 2na descended on the Biltmore.
The Lytics, from Manitoba, were more than worthy to open for the Jurassic 5 alumni. Their multi-member attack rang of a resurrected Pharcyde: confident, high energy, and engaging.
Once Chali 2na took to stage with his full band (drummer, bassist, keyboardist/vocalist, and sidekick vocalist), he had the near-capacity Biltmore crowd jumping, singing along, and losing their minds for over 2 hours.
Pulling tracks from his J5 years as well as his solo work, every single note was perfectly clear and powerful. He was spot-on all night, and obviously just didn’t want to stop! Nor did his band, each player giving virtuoso performances, reestablishing what is to be expected from a hip hop show: no DJ necessary, just a crew of mega talented guys who love their music and want nothing more than to blow their audience’s collective mind.
