Becky Black and Maya Miller, aka Pack A.D., played a hometown show last night before heading to Victoria. The band’s most recent album was 2011’s Unpersons

Writing in the National Post, where it was Album of the Week, David Berry said: “Even moreso than last year’s We Kill Computers, Unpersons is workmanlike, far more akin to moving televisions than being the skinny little other f-words on them. Though it certainly widens the duo’s palette — mostly in the form of big, ol’ ’70s U.K. metal riffs — it is rock far more in description than spirit, electric only insomuch as the guitars have to be plugged in to be heard. This doesn’t necessarily equate to not being worth it, across the board, but it does make for a glaring disconnect between sound and effect, especially when the band tries to convey some kind of energy.”
