The Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival officially kicked off yesterday, Feb 27, with a launch party at Joey One Bentall. Sample wines included two Cabernet Sauvignons, including Trim from the Napa Valley, as well as a Chilean Carmenere. Joey Restaurants’ Executive Chef Chris Mills oversaw the Chilean-style bite-size morsels, which included Baja fish tacos, calamari fritto and chickpea frites. Raising a toast midway through the proceedings, VPIWF executive director Harry Hertscheg made note of the 30,000 bottles of wine that will be opened over the next week (the festival runs until March 4).
