Rachael Cardiello stopped by the Railway Club Monday night on a tour in support of Warm Electric Winter. Her first full-length, the album was released just over a month ago, in December of 2012.

Recorded in Brooklyn, the record is filled with catchy and ambitious pop and smart lyrics. In “That Night in Canada”, Cardiello sings:

Now I can’t picture his face or his name, but I remember how the river ran dry, that night in Canada. Your hair was dreaded and long, it made a nest, as he told us ‘bout the time that he jumped off the edge of America. Of America. Oh, America…gonna make you my home. Oh, America. Ah America. Yeah, America…gonna make you my own.

Biographical material on the singer/songwriter/violinist is scarce, but from what we’ve been able to turn up, we believe she is classically-trained, and that she may have been educated at the University of Victoria but now makes her home in Toronto. Also, that she is married to James Burrows, with whom she shares a band, Runaway Brides.

You can hear Warm Electric Winter on Rachael Cardiello’s bandcamp page.
