The Vancouver-based band is playing several shows and music festivals this summer in support of their fourth album, The Sticks.

The Snipe’s Shawn Conner interviewed lead singer Ryan Guldemond for the Vancouver Sun. Here’s an excerpt from that interview:

SC: Are you a confessional songwriter? Or are you in character in your lyrics?

RG: The song comes from the songwriter, and there’s always a grain of truth. But I definitely try to accentuate or inflame these views of cynicism and honesty and human condition. It comes naturally, I do tend to lean in that direction. But in my waking life things aren’t nearly as dire as in the lyrics.

SC: Have you ever regretted a song lyric?

RG: Can’t say that I have. You hear some stuff in your catalogue that you think is young in the writing or immature, but I could always see that it coming from an authentic place. I’ve never written anything that was inauthentic. Not for Mother Mother, anyway.

SC: Can you see yourself doing a solo album?

RG: That’s definitely something I’d like to do down the road. There’s a pile of songs in that vein and I’ve sat there watching them collect dust over the years. At the same time you have to be patient and wait for the right time.
