Gold Fields are taking their debut LP Black Sun on the road. The Australian indie-electro quintet kicks off its first extensive North American tour at Fortune Sound Club this Saturday, Aug. 31, and barely get a moment’s rest until they reach the East Coast in October.

But you won’t hear these guys complaining about a hectic schedule. The group is accustomed to putting in tons of hours and elbow grease into their music – their record underwent several revamps before the band felt that it was ready for its launch. They started working on Black Sun in LA, back in 2011 but couldn’t shake off the feeling that it would be best produced in the DIY vein of their first self-titled EP.

Returning to their hometown in Ballarat, a mining town outside of Melbourne, the boys set up shop in lead singer Mark Robert Fuller’s garage where they laboured over tropical beats, bright and whimsical melodies and introspective lyrics for months. The result is a gripping New wave, synth-laden record with dark and evocative themes, encapsulated in their breakout single “Dark Again”.
