Book launch – Cloudscape Comics’ Waterlogged tonight at the Maritime Museum
– by Ria Nevada
Vancouver is home to a talented group of comic book creators and enthusiasts – a diverse crowd that gains inspiration and support from vibrant indie coalitions like Cloudscape Comics Society.
Not only does this B.C. collective serve as a creative soundboard for aspiring writers and artists, they also pool together their impressive roster of talent for a yearly comic anthology. Since Cloudscape’s inception in 2007, every anthology has taken on a different theme, ranging from 2009’s assortment of historical fiction Historyonics to 2012’s Giants of Main Street, a whimsical take on our concrete jungle.
Tonight the collective launches Waterlogged: Tales From the Seven Seas, a collection of nautical stories featuring the works of Sam Logan, Nina Matsumoto, Angela Melick, and a mix of many more established and budding local talent. Drop by The Maritime Museum between 6 to 8 p.m. to be one of the first to own the 7th annual graphic novel coxswained by artist, editor-in-chief and Cloudscape president Jeff Ellis (author of the webcomic Teach English in Japan).
