Bands With Cats – Michelle Yale from Vancouver Cantata Singers and Isis
– by Cheena Jean Normandin
Your name: Michelle Yale
Your band(s) and role(s): I sing alto for the Vancouver Cantata Singers and I sing alto/soprano for an a capella female group called Sweet Scarlet.
What’s your cat’s name? What’s her origin story?
My cat’s name is Isis, and we chose that because the name comes from the god Isis and from the awesome metal band. She’s a purebred Siberian. We wanted to adopt a cat, but unfortunately my husband has severe allergies and this was one of the few breeds that was close to hypoallergenic without being hairless. She’s originally from Georgia and we drove down to Sea-Tac airport to pick her up.
Who feeds your cat?
My husband and I share the job, depending on who’s home or who happens to be in the kitchen at the time.
What do you think would be your cat’s theme song?
“Threw It On the Ground” by the Lonely Island. She pretty much does what she wants, when she wants and doesn’t take crap from anyone, lol!
What tone does your cat like to sing in?
She’s a diva soprano, but has a rock star wail (when she gets insistent).
What is the last impressive thing your cat murdered?
She has this fun, dangly cat toy (see picture). It used to have fish with bells inside, feathers and other stuff attached, but as you can see, she has devoured most of it! That, and she can attack a ball of crumpled paper better than anyone 🙂
What is your cat’s favorite Broadway musical?
NOT CATS. Actually she really loves funny musicals, and her favourites are Evil Dead, the Musical, especially when she gets to sit in the Splatter Zone.
What is the last incredibly adorable thing you witnessed your kitty do?
My husband was BBQing outside and Isis wanted to go out too, but she’s not allowed. So my husband walked over and was playing with a stick on one side of the glass and Isis was on the other side trying to attack the stick. Too cute!
Where is the last inconvenient place your cat fell asleep?
On the toilet seat. My husband was taking a shower in the upstairs bathroom, and I had to go to the bathroom so I went downstairs, but Isis was sleeping on the seat so I had to wait.
