The 3rd Annual String Fling concert Wednesday night at The Biltmore Cabaret (2755 Prince Edward Street). A second show takes place tonight (Jan 29).
Performers include Jim Byrnes, Ryan Guldemond, Dustin Bentall, Parker Bossley (Gay Nineties, Fur Trade, bassist of Mounties and Hot Hot Heat), Hannah Epperson, Dominique Fricot, Dan Moxon (Bend Sinister) and Tonye Aganaba.
The event is presented by 102.7 The Peak FM and the Four on The Floor String Quartet, a Vancouver-based string quartet established to collaborate with musicians/bands in recording and live performance. Members include Michelle Faehrmann (cello), Elliot Vaughn (viola), Stephanie Chatman (violin) and Emily Bach (violin) with Epperson (violin) performing on a few select songs as well as her own set of original pieces. The players have backgrounds in classical, jazz, folk and other musical training.
The first String Fling Concert took place in December of 2012 at the Rio Theatre in Vancouver. The 2nd Annual String Fling took place in February 2014 and sold out. This is the first year String Fling is happening over two nights.
The idea behind the event is an evening where the music is tied together by strings. Each artist performs two or three songs with Four on the Floor, and the quartet performs in between each set with original pieces.
