Preview – Shambhala Music Festival 2015
Now in its 18th year of production, the Shambhala Music Festival returns to the Salmo River Ranch from Aug 7-10. The Snipe is sending Victoria-based freelance writer Mary Klovance to cover.
This year, the electronic music and camping festival is hosting 300Â+ artists across six stages. The stages include Shambhala’s The Village, Fractal Forest, The Living Room, Amphitheatre, The Grove, and Pagoda, each presenting a diverse mix of musical talent throughout the weekend.
Featuring tree forts and interconnected bridges, The Village stage will feature acts like Skrillex, KOAN Sound, Lucent Dossier Experience, Big Gigantic, DATSIK, and more.
The Fractal Forest stage pays homage to old school hipÂhop and house with Mix Master Mike of the Beastie Boys, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and over 40Â+ performers amongst an immersive, interactive environment featuring dancers, pyramids, flowers, and friendly forest creatures.
The Living Room stage will provide a variety of global genres ranging from the deepest of dub and downtempo, to zouk bass, disco funk, groovy house, and Latin flavors from artists like DJ Harvey and Tipper alongside 60Âp+ performance artists.
The most eclectic of all the stages, the AMPhitheatre runs the gamut of bassÂ-driven music with featured artists such as Mr. Carmack and CRNKN plus over 40 more MCs and performers.
The fest’s newest stage, The Grove, features live performance art and a lineup of world bass music, glitch hop, deep dubstep, and garage acts through DJ sets by Bonobo and Tipper.
The Pagoda stage promises an interstellar, audiovisual feast and a legends in West Coast bass, funky house, and disco, and tropical house with sets from Claude VonStroke, Pretty Lights, Kygo, Griz, Thomas Jack, MK, Dusky, and over 30 more performers.
