Toronto’s Frigs play the Cobalt July 1.

Preview – FRIGS at the Cobalt, Vancouver, July 1

Toronto-based band FRIGS is touring in support of their EP Slush (Arts & Crafts). The EP includes the songs “God Hates a Coward” (see video below) and “Ringworm”, which premiered on Noisey. (You can hear the EP on the FRIGS’ bandcamp page.)

According to a press release, “Nerdist also wrote up the excellent slow burner ‘TV’ from the EP saying, ‘guitars shimmer in the periphery, as the bass is fittingly reminiscent of the opening riff of the Twin Peaks theme song–enough to suggest its lilt and salient mystery. At the center of it all is (Bria) Salmena’s sultry voice.’” It’s their second EP, following 2014’s Dirty FRIGS.

The press release goes on to say that “The band pairs the raw, emotional grunge of PJ Harvey with the immersive, psychedelic post-punk of early Sonic Youth. With each member bringing a unique set of influences, FRIGS creates a sound that is hard to pin down and an impression that’s unshakable.”

The group’s members are part of Toronto’s multi-disciplined Heretical Objects Cooperative, which means that “community and collaboration are essential to FRIGS approach and aesthetic.”
