Overcoats at the Cobalt in Vancouver Wednesday night.
The Brooklyn duo released their debut album, Young, via Arts & Crafts in April. Hana Elion and JJ Mitchell met as teenagers in 2011 and released an EP as Overcoats in 2015.
Nicolas Vernhes (The War On Drugs, Dirty Projectors) and Autre Ne Veut co-produced the album. The first single was “Hold Me Close“.
NPR has praised the pair’s “fresh approach to a time-tested formula, presenting sentimental songwriting over electronic beats, both hearty and sparse.” The New York Times said that “Overcoats harmonize constantly and consonantly in the style of old-line country brother acts, from the Stanley Brothers to the Everly Brothers. But the songs they write aren’t country”
