Twin brothers Rich (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Ryan Meyer (drums, backing vocals) founded the band with Johnny Stevens (guitar, lead vocals) in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. After starting as a bar cover band, they relocated to Brooklyn, New York. There, they recorded The Worst Humans EP with producer Joel Hamilton (Elvis Costello, Plastic Ono Band, The Black Keys, Wu-Tang Clan).

The band released its first studio album, Mister Asylum, in 2015. The record earned the trio a nomination for Best Rock Album at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards. The song “Lydia” also earned a nomination (for Best Rock Song). They released their second studio album, The Boy Who Died Wolf, in 2016.
