Having already captivated music fans with her live and recorded work with Owl City, Breanne Düren is stepping out on her own with her debut EP, Sparks. The Minnesota-based singer and songwriter’s EP was released May 3 through dürendüren Records.
Sparks was produced by Mike Daly (a former member of Ryan Adams‘ band Whiskeytown who has also worked with Rachael Yamagata, The Pernice Brothers, and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals). According to a press release, the EP “is a five-song introduction to this charming young artist that showcases her sweet, soulful voice, unique lyrical point of view, and talent for writing lithe, playful melodies.” The press release describes the song “Gold Mine” as “a modern take on the pop-soul vibe of classic ’60s girl groups, while ‘No One Else’ bounces along on a stripped-down synth-pop groove.”
According to USA Today, “Gold Mine” is “a girl group throwback with a modern streak of grrrl power,” and Entertainment Weekly recently told its readers if you “love Adele‘s ‘Rumor Has It’, then try ‘Gold Mine.'”
