Bands with cats – Brett Threats and Baxter
– by Cheena Jean Normandin
Who are you? Brett Threats
Whats’s your deal? I play guitar in The Grave Life, bass in Keep Tidy and drums in Stress Eating.
What’s your cat’s name? Baxter aka Lord Baximus, aka Skiddleman, aka Pantherman 5000.
What’s Baxter’s story?
I was looking to get a kitten. One of my friends was working for PHS [Portland Hotel Society] at the time and let me know that one of the tenants in her building had a cat that had had a litter, and that if I wanted one I could come and pick it up. I went to see him and I fell in love right away. She kind of just handed him to me, asked for a syringe and headed off in to the night.
What’s Baxter’s origin?What’s his breed?
He’s from the DTES. Not sure of his breed.
Who feeds Baxter?
Usually I do, but I’ve had some pretty amazing roommates that have helped feed him if I’m away.
What’s Baxter’s theme song?
The Duck Song Parts 1-3. He likes blasting it on Saturday mornings when I’m hungover in bed.
What does Baxter listen to when you’re at work?
LL Cool J, Walking With the Panther. It’s his favorite album. Go figure.
What’s Baxter’s most heroic endeavor?
Mmmm. I’m not really sure of this one. He probably does it all when I’m away or asleep.
What does Baxter get up to on a Friday night?
He used to go to Sorry Babushka’s [old Commercial Drive haunt] for beers. Now he just hangs at home. My old roommate Steve found this picture on Instagram after Bax had followed us to Sorry Babushka and all the staff seemed to know him.
Pro- or anti-catnip?
Pro, but he’s a horrible party guest. He’ll just sneeze on it and blow it everywhere.
Brett’s next upcoming show is with The Grave Life Feb. 27 at The Cobalt. RSVP to what will be a super-sweet show on the Facebook event page.
