Bands With Cats Corey of Cowards and Teto + Patterns
– by Cheena Jean Normandin
Cowards is:
Corey Lee – drums/cat owner
Spencer Davis – bass/stern talker/interview ghost writer
Josh Rose – guitar/pontificator
Mike(y) Wilock – guitar/just guitar
What are your cats’ given names?
Teto and Patterns.
What are  Teto and Patterns’ origin stories?
I got Teto from a good friend. He called me the day he got her and as soon as I got off the phone with him, I knew that Teto would be mine in a few months. The house he lived at didn’t allow pets. Teto is a garbage hunter.
Patterns just kind of domesticated herself.
What do your cats eat?
Cat food. It’s strange to think: every sack you buy will later be your cat.
What is their theme song ?
Sisters of Mercy, “Dominion”. They’re quite simple.
Do you have reason to suspect your cats are hatching any incredible schemes at the moment?
Are you kidding? They are cats. The most incredible scheme they can come up with lately is to tear open a bag of nuts. They don’t even know what to do with them after that!
Pile of cassettes or pile of records – what are they more likely to fall asleep on?
Definitely a pile of records.
They are also liable to piss in any boxes full of rare 7″s at the drop of a hat.
What is the most impressive thing that your cats have murdered?
Murder is such a strong word. They have helped various mice, crows and rats reach a higher plane of existence, provided they have read and understood the Tibetan Book of the Dead thrice over.
Also burgers.
What do you think your cats listen to when you are out at a show?
They don’t listen to anything. They just listen in a cold, steely silence, waiting for the sound of keys in the door. “… for man lives in time, in succession, while the magical animal lives in the present, in the eternity of the instant.” (“The South,” Borges). In this case, the eternity includes an insistent hunger, only sated by 100% Salmon Snacks.
Where can we find your cats on a Sunday morning while the rest of your peer group is hungover ?
Licking up the remains of the night before, generally but not limited to lime juice, empty jars of mayonnaise, pints of blood, and tear soaked tissues.
You can find Cowards in person Feb.28 at Red Gate with lié, Quitting and Infidel
