Bands with cats – Les Chaussettes’ Maria and… Cat
– by Cheena Jean Normandin
Your name: Maria
Your deal: Les Chaussettes, bass guitar.
What’s your cat’s given name? Cat.
What’s Cat’s origin story?
My old roommate and I decided to get kittens, and we found two from the same litter out on a farm in Maple Ridge for free. We drove out there with this random couch surfer who was staying with us; he was nice to come out for the adventure with two strange ladies. We got two kittens – mine was named Cat and hers was named Dog. The vet was very confused when we brought them to get spayed/neutered.
How long have you had Cat? Three years.
What’s Cat’s breed? Noir.
Who feeds Cat?
I do. She has a hellish meow when she’s hungry and doesn’t let me forget.
What’s your cat’s theme song?
“Petit Petit Chat Noir” by Les Chaussettes. It’s a song that we wrote about her.
What is the last book your cat fell asleep on?
Catch 22 by Joseph Heller. It’s sitting on the chair that I chuck all my clothes onto.
What is the last incredible thing you witnessed your cat do?
She got really excited about the bag of Christmas ornaments in the hall set to be put away, and started chasing it. She got her head stuck in the handle and when she managed to escape, she started puking immediately after.
If you could glimpse inside your kitty’s head what do you think she would be musing on at the moment?
On a scale of 1-10, what is the chance that your cat is plotting something diabolical at the moment?
Seven. Her claws are slightly drawn into the couch cushion. She appears relaxed but could strike any moment.
What do you suspect Cat listens to when you’re not around?
I’m sure she listens to some really fast-paced surf rock, like “Wipe Out” or something, as she frantically scurries around the house while throwing up.
Les Chaussettes play the Remington Gallery (101 E. Hastings St.) Jan. 17 at for Jovana’s Twins Benefit Show.
