Cold War Kids at a sold-out Vogue Theatre show in Vancouver March 5 in support of new album Mine is Yours. The band is originally from Long Beach, CA.

Concertgoer Michelle Avendano reports:

A Lull, a virtually unknown band hailing from Chicago, started the night off with a slower set list. Their unique sound is thanks in part to plenty of beats and textures mixed with vocals creating an organic yet synthesized sound.

“Cold War Kids started off the show with a new song and fan approval. ‘Hang Me Up to Dry’, their break-through, came third song in.

“Every song was performed with vigour and sweat. Matt Maust, the bassist, and Jonnie Russell, the guitarist, danced and kicked across the stage. Between new songs and fan favorites, the band kept up the momentum. A highlight was new song ‘Out of the Wilderness’, which is a departure from their other songs in that it is more chaotic and darker. It translated amazingly live as lead singer Nathan Willette’s red silhouette lit up the Vogue.

“‘We are going get what we want from you guys tonight,” Willette told us. In the audience, bodies swayed and hands went up for songs like ‘Audience’, ‘Hospital Beds’ and “Louder Than Ever’.

“’It’s Saturday we feel pretty f**** good, you guys are feeling pretty f**** good, I have never felt this good and I don’t say that too often!’ Willette said in recognition of the crowd’s jubilation. After an encore that included an excellent rendition of their song ‘St. John’, the band called it a night, leaving the audience hungry for more.”
