It’s Alive is the title of the debut album from La Luz (it’s also the name of a 1974 horror movie and the first live Ramones album). The Seattle group plays what some have dubbed “surf noir” – maybe sort of like if The Cramps played surf instead of rockabilly.

La Luz has also released a video for “Big Bad Blood” from the album (out on Hardly Art). Directed by Carlos Lopez, the video “embraces the band’s spooky side and goes full-bore with grindhouse horror and giallo-inspired imagery,” according to the press release. It’s true – it looks as though it was filmed on the cheap in the ’70s, with deep reds and browns.

Video – La Luz, “Big Bad Blood”:

The band just came off a tour with Portland’s Pure Bathing Culture. Wednesday’s night’s Electric Owl show was the last night of the tour.

The band started in the summer of 2012. Members include Shana Cleveland (guitar), Marian Li Pino (drums), Abbey Blackwell (bass), and Alice Sandahl (keyboard). “Everyone sings” and the songs are credited to “Shana and La Luz”, according to the bandcamp page for their Damp Face EP.
